Škoda Elroq vRS crowned The Times Driving Car of the Year

Škoda’s motorsport-inspired Elroq vRS has secured its first major victory by winning the race to clinch the coveted Car of the Year title by The Times Driving. The all-electric compact SUV model was also named Mid-sized SUV of the year, adding to its already impressive collection of industry accolades.

Launched earlier this year, the Elroq vRS marks a significant milestone in Škoda’s electrification journey, becoming the brand’s second all-electric vRS model following the Enyaq vRS. It features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined output of 340 PS. This setup propels the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 111 mph. The 79 kWh net battery provides a WLTP range of up to 339 miles, ensuring both performance and endurance.

The judging panel praised the Elroq vRS’s driving dynamics and highlighted its exceptional value for money. Commenting on the Elroq’s victory, Will Dron, Digital Driving Editor at The Times and Sunday Times, said: “The Elroq vRS adds a lot more sizzle, with its extra motor on the front axle, power boosted to 335 bhp, and adaptive damping with 15 levels of adjustment. It's an electric car in the true tradition of a hot hatch, mixing everyday usability with rally-bred thrills, all at an affordable price. We absolutely loved it, and are delighted to name it The Times Driving Car of the Year."

Proving that the Elroq range has real strength in depth, the model was also named Mid-sized SUV of the year (for the non vRS variant), seeing off all its rivals in what is one of the most competitive sectors in the new car market. The Elroq’s intelligent design and acclaimed attention to detail proved a winning combination with the judging panel, with Will Dron adding: "The Elroq is a standout family EV, with amazing roominess for its class and the touches of practical genius for which Škoda has become known. The cargo net under the parcel shelf for charging cables is one of those ideas that makes you wonder how no-one came up with it before. It was an obvious choice for our Mid-sized SUV of the Year.”

The all-new Škoda Elroq has made an immediate impact in the UK, collecting a string of high-profile honours since its launch. It was crowned Car of the Year 2025 at the Auto Express New Car Awards, where it also secured the title of Mid-Size SUV of the Year, cementing its reputation as one of the most complete electric SUVs on sale today. Adding to its success, the Elroq was also named Family Electric SUV of the Year at the What Car? Awards 2025, and took the Best Medium SUV title at the Business Car Awards.
