Škoda Elroq vRS takes on 1980s icons

For an entire generation of drivers, supercars lived on bedroom walls. Low, wide and impossibly exotic, the supercars of the 1980s represented the absolute pinnacle of automotive performance. They were the cars many dreamed about owning, drove in video games and proudly displayed on posters.

To highlight the Elroq vRS and its status as the fastest-accelerating production Škoda in history, Škoda has pitched it head-to-head with a collection of iconic 1980s supercars in a straight-line drag race.

The short film, created by Škoda UK, highlights a remarkable shift in automotive performance: the sort of acceleration that once belonged exclusively to six-figure dream machines is now available in a fully electric SUV designed for everyday life.

Powered by two electric motors producing a combined 340PS, the Elroq vRS sprints from 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds, making it the quickest-accelerating production Škoda ever built. With 340PS and 545Nm of instantly available torque, its performance is a reminder of just how dramatically performance has evolved. A standard sports chassis, progressive steering and Dynamic Chassis Control help deliver a driving experience that is as engaging as it is composed.

Back in the 1980s, these acceleration figures would have placed a car firmly in supercar territory. Today, they come wrapped in an SUV body capable of carrying five, accommodating family life and delivering up to 344 miles of WLTP range on a single charge.

Pietro Panarisi, Head of PR & Communications at Škoda UK said: "Many of us grew up admiring the supercars of the 1980s. They were the benchmark for performance and captured the imagination of a generation. What makes the Elroq vRS so exciting is that it demonstrates how far automotive technology has progressed over the decades. It delivers acceleration that rivals cars once considered unattainable performance icons, while also offering the practicality, comfort and usability customers expect from a modern Škoda. Unlike most poster cars, there's enough room for shopping bags, suitcases and the family dog."

The largest battery available in the Elroq range – with a gross capacity of 82kWh (77kWh net) – enables a WLTP driving range of up to 344 miles and supports ultra-rapid DC charging at up to 185kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in around 29 minutes.

Distinctive vRS styling cues further reinforce the model's position at the top of the Elroq range. The exterior features an illuminated Tech-Deck Face, black design elements, bespoke bumpers and alloy wheels up to 21 inches in size, while the cabin combines microsuede upholstery, sports seats and vRS-specific detailing.
