Superb named Best Family Car in UK Car of the Year Awards
The new Škoda Superb has secured a key category win in the annual UK Car of the Year Awards, reaffirming its position as the benchmark car in the segment. The judging panel praised the new Superb for its all-round ability, exceptional practicality and value for money.
The UK Car of the Year Awards (UKCOTY) is a wholly independent set of awards, designed to highlight and advise on the best new cars on the market specifically for UK customers.
Unlike some awards which feature numerous sub-categories, the UK Car of the Year Awards name just seven sector winners with the overall winner taken from the list of individual winners. The overall UK Car of the Year is set to be revealed on 6 March 2025 following a final round of judging.
The UK Car of the Year judging panel features a host of established and experienced names from across the UK motoring media, including in-house journalists from Top Gear and Auto Express, along with high profile freelance experts.
The panel unanimously placed the new Superb at the top of the Family Car category, with Top Gear’s Ollie Marriage commenting: “The world may be changing fast, but there’s still so much to be said of a car that knows precisely what it’s for.” Auto Express Editor Paul Barker added: “Clever, spacious, good quality and really good at all the stuff families will appreciate. Just a great all-rounder.”, while The Daily Telegraph’s Alex Robbins summed up the overall opinion of the panel by saying: “There simply is no better family hauler on the market today.”
The UK Car of the Year victory is the latest piece of industry silverware to be claimed by the new Superb since its introduction last year. It was named Best Estate in the 2024 Auto Express Awards, Best Estate 2025 by Carbuyer and was award Comfortable Cruiser of the Year by Carwow.
Available in hatch and estate forms, the fourth-generation Superb comes with a range of engine options, including a new plug-in hybrid model that offers an all-electric driving range of up to 84 miles and rapid DC charging at speeds of up to 50kW. The new Superb also comes with numerous new or enhanced assistance systems including Turn Assist and Crossroad Assist.
It also continues to set the standards for interior space with boot space of up to 1,920 litres (estate) with the rear seats folded down. Available with four trim grade options: SE Technology, SE L, SportLine and L&K.
