Sponsorship at Derek Slack Motors

Cheque Out the New KamiQ!

A big thank you to Kim Bradley from Teesside Hospice, for making an appearance at the launch of the all-new Kamiq. Kim was there to accept our latest contribution the hospice which included some funds raised by Derek Slack Motors staff in the Great North Run.

Derek Slack Motors - Known for Great Runners!

Last Sunday, #TeamTeeside along with runners from Derek Slack Motors, completed the 39th running of the world’s biggest half marathon, the Simplyhealth Great North Run.

Derek Slack Motors are proud sponsors of Teeside Hospice and collectively our team raised almost £2,000 for their chosen charities.

Pictured L to R are: Peter Roxby - Parts Manager, Our service manager Chris’s wife Denise Harrison, Paula Slack (who was running to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis), Tony Slack - Managing Director and Andrew Fowle - Sales Manager (who ran in aid of the Stroke Association).

After the race Tony took to the massage table to have his aches and pains soothed away (His feet took the brunt of the damage as seen in a photo which is too horrific to be shown here!). Andrew managed to get a ‘selfie’ with Radzi from Blue Peter.

Peter was an official pace runner, carrying a ‘2hr 35mins’ flag to help runners pace themselves towards their target time for the half marathon. He finished the run within 35 seconds of his target!

The first Great North Run was staged on 28 June 1981, when 12,000 runners participated. By 2011, the number of participants had risen to 54,000. For the first year it was advertised as a local fun run; nearly thirty years on it has become one of the biggest running events in the world, and the biggest in the UK. Only the Great Manchester Run and London Marathon come close to attracting similar numbers of athletes each year.

Flying Falcons Fantastic Final

The National Final of the Jaguar Primary School Challenge took place on Tuesday 11th June 2019 at the British Motor Museum in Warwick.

Unfortunately, ‘The Flying Falcons’ - the Derek Slack Motors sponsored team of students, didn’t walk away with the trophy.

However, we received a lovely letter from Miss Brown - the children’s Curriculum Lead.

Good Morning,

I am writing to inform you that our year 6 team ‘The Flying Falcons’ had a fantastic time on Tuesday at the Jaguar Primary School Challenge competition. It was a very exciting day with a total of 38 teams competing nationally. Thanks to your generous support, we were nominated for the sponsorship award, however we sadly lost out to another team. The children had the most amazing time and have learned a lot from the experience and it has certainly sparked a greater interest in engineering and design.

I would like to extend my gratitude once more for your generous sponsorship and supporting our team to reach the national final. Photographs are being currently being gathered and will be emailed to you promptly for you to use in any marketing or media materials.

Best wishes,

Miss Amy Brown (and The Flying Falcons)

We wish all the members of the team good luck in whichever career path they choose, whether it’s car design or not!

Young Engineers in the Final

The National Final of the Jaguar Primary School Challenge is being held today, Tuesday 11th June 2019 at the British Motor Museum in Warwick.

Derek Slack Motors are proud to be sponsoring ‘The Flying Falcons’ team of students from a North East School who have managed to reach the final.

The students will researched, designed and created model racing cars, learning about aerodynamic forces, efficiency, mathematics and the principles of design. Teams were also given the chance to experiment with the electrification of their vehicles, considering the design considerations of using alternative energy sources.

Look out for updates on how they faired. Good luck kids!

Middlesbrough college Golf Team Sponsorship

Derek Slack Motors are proud to support the Middlesbrough College Golf Academy by sponsoring the team uniforms.

Some of the academy students recently played in the AOC national qualifiers at Forest Park Golf Club, where the top 4 players from the North East region qualified for AOC National College Championship next year. All the qualifying spots were taken by Middlesbrough College Academy players!

The Middlesbrough College Golf Academy team will be participating in the AoC National Championships which take place at Morley Hayes Golf Club in Nottingham this week 26th-28th April.

Instructor James Atthey bases his coaching around the individuality of each player, he prides himself on his multi-disciplined approach that focuses on improving swing technique, mental approach and psychological abilities.

James believes each player has their own individual style, with the academy helping to perfect this.

The Academy boasts state-of-the-art facilities and analysis tools support players in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, along with suggested techniques to develop their skills.

Derek Slack Motors Sponsor the Engineers of Tomorrow

Derek Slack Motors are proud to be sponsoring a team of students from a North East School in The Jaguar Primary School Challenge. The Jaguar Primary School Challenge is a STEM competition, open to students aged 6-11 years old and involves designing and manufacturing the fastest car possible within a set of rules, following the design and engineering processes employed by real engineering companies like Jaguar Land Rover and Skoda.

Part of the project was to secure sponsorship for the team by writing to local companies. Yr6 student Ben Gas, who is obviously a budding entrepreneur, wrote us a very persuasive letter asking for help.

The students will research, design and create model racing cars, learning about aerodynamic forces, efficiency, mathematics and the principles of design. Teams are also given the chance to experiment with the electrification of their vehicles, considering the design considerations of using alternative energy sources.

The teams then compete to be crowned National Champions, producing design portfolios, presenting to the judges and culminating in the ultimate test of speed with a pulsating head-to-head race.

Hopefully one of the Derek Slack Motors sponsored team will be taking the first steps to becoming an automotive engineer of tomorrow.

Our team ‘The Flying Falcons’ came second in the regional finals, also winning the prize for best engineering on the day. The students are very excited to be heading down to Warwick in June to compete in the national finals for the competition.

We wish ‘The Flying Falcons’ the very best of luck in the finals.

Derek Slack Motors Sponsor Historic Road Rally Car

Derek Slack Motors are very proud to sponsor the Skoda Felicia rally car of Alan Bland from Bellingham, Northumberland who contacted us recently looking for a Skoda dealer to support him, he completed the 2018 Mull Targa Rally on Saturday the 13th October.

Although Alan (67) has been involved in rallying since he was 19, and competed in the British Rally Championship in the 70s, he only got back into rallying last year.

The Isle of Mull Targa road rally is an event restricted to road cars and road tyres and Alan saw an opportunity to get involved with his Skoda Felicia 2000 1.3 model.

Hexham's MP Guy Opperman presented Alan with a Community Champion Award for his achivements in last year's Mull Rally.

The track was mainly made up of tarmac, forestry commission land and farm tracks. Alan was thrilled to have competed again and to have raised money for the Great North Air Ambulance through sponsorship and donations.

You can donate at Alan's justgiving.com page.
